How is it different from HALO (technique, downtime, safer for darker fitzpatrick skin types)?
Safe for all skin types (dependent on level treated), faster treatment than halo (think 30-45 min in clinic compared to 2+ hours), downtime is 3-4 days instead of HALO’s 5-10 days.
Pre/Post Treatment, Downtime
See pre/post instructions. Downtime is more like “healing time” and is 3-4 days.
Recommended Maintenance
Series of 3, the provider will assess for additional treatments based on goals.
IDEAL CANDIDATES
If you are concerned about the appearance of your scars, you will make an ideal candidate for scar treatment. New or many years old, your scars can be from:
A traumatic injury, burn marks, or an accidental wound to the skin
A previous surgical scar
Acne scars
Removal of skin growths, keloid, or skin cancer scar
Scleroderma
If any of these circumstances describe you, we would like to invite you to come to ARTisan Skin & Laser Center to have a complimentary skin care consultation to discuss your options.
PROCEDURE TECHNIQUE
You will be prescribed medication to take before your appointment to help minimize the swelling after your laser treatment. One hour before your procedure, we will apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment area. Laser scar treatment takes about 25 – 35 minutes after you are numb. It is our goal to make this appointment as relaxing as possible for you, which is why we have a built-in cooling system that will follow the warm passes of the laser. The severity, size, and location of your scar will determine how many sessions you will need and for how long. Dr. Tendler can give you an estimate of the number of sessions you may require, but that number could change as the treatments modify the skin. She may also recommend using adjunct treatments like injections of platelet-rich plasma (PRP), steroids, or the dermal filler Sculptra®.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Once your laser session is complete, you may still feel a warming sensation (like a slight sunburn) in your skin for about an hour afterward, which is normal. Not to worry, we will send you home with instructions and an at-home kit to take care of your skin during the healing process. If you experience any concerning side effects or want to ask a question about your skin, please call our office for assistance. You may have some post-procedure redness and swelling for 3 – 7 days.
During the first 3 – 6 months, the collagen in your skin will slowly modify and remodel after each laser treatment. Dr. Tendler may recommend that you repeat your treatment every 8 – 12 weeks for 3 – 10 treatments or until your aesthetic goal is met. Overall, your laser scar treatments will soften the scar tissue as well as improve your ability to move the area, plus relieve some discomfort and itching by resurfacing the skin.
MINIMIZE YOUR SCARS
Any scar (large or small) will need the help of a medical professional to revise the way it looks. Once a scar has set in, it will be there no matter what kind of cream or ointment you apply. Dr. Tendler can help you revise what the damaged skin looks like with laser scar treatment in her office at ARTisan Skin & Laser Center. Together, you and Dr. Tendler will come up with a strategy that will address your skin care needs to renew and repair your skin to look and feel better than before. Call our office today!
