About Collagen Induction Therapy

Collagen Induction Therapy(CIT) uses several fine-gauge needles to safely and effectively create micro-injuries in the epidermis of the skin. The micro-injuries trigger the body's natural production of collagen and elastin that overall improves appearance and health of the skin. Schedule a complimentary consultation at ARTisan today to hear more about the benefits of CIT and ways to customize the treatment for your needs and goals.

Collagen Induction Therapy

CIT is an FDA-approved facial rejuvenation treatment designed to help renew lost collagen. At your procedure a member of the ARTisan team will topically apply a numbing cream 45 minutes prior to the service.  Your blood with be drawn, typically from your arm, and will be spun down in a centrifuge to obtain the Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), which will be used as the serum for this procedure. This minimally invasive procedure uses a 0.5 mm – 1.5 mm needle in length and a 32-gauge width on a handheld device(with a circular motion on the skin) to comfortably glide over the skin.  Your skin will appear red for approximately 24 hours after.

CIT with PRP Therapy

Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy (PRP) can enhance the collagen induction therapy (CIT) by using your own serum with it's growth factors to boost youthful looking skin and healing time. We will prepare the PRP after a quick blood draw and spin it in our lab (it is separated in a centrifuge) down to a beautiful golden serum to be applied topically to your face during your service. Skin issues that can be improved via CIT with PRP can include decreased visibility of wrinkles, scars, discoloration, large pores, and more.

Ideal Candidates

Collagen Induction Therapy benefits all skin types with concerns in appearance of pores, scars, and stretch marks and hair restoration. CIT improvements occur over time as collagen and elastin take a minimum of 1-2 months to yield noticeable results.

Treatment Technique

Collagen Induction Therapy is completed in a private treatment room in about 45 – 60 minutes with a topically applied numbing cream. Patients generally report mild or no discomfort. The skin being treated will be cleansed before the multi-needled handpiece is passed over the skin. After the microneedling is complete, a topical treatment like PRP or a vitamin-infused serum can be applied to the treated area for deeper penetration of the nutrients into the skin. UV protection since your skin will be sensitive after the treatment.

What to Expect

You may experience mild swelling and redness for about a day, but this should fade naturally. It may take about 1 – 2 months as the collagen and elastin levels increase before you see visible improvements in the health and appearance of your complexion. You should plan to get maintenance treatments every 6 weeks for ideal results and long-lasting skin health.
