About Laser Skin Resurfacing

Let us wow your skin with the world's first Hybrid Fractional Laser the Halo offered at ARTisan Skin & Laser Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Laser skin resurfacing is a nonsurgical technique that applies both ablative and non-ablative wave lengths to exfoliate damaged skin. It is great for all ages and most skin types.  This laser therapy is renowned for improving facial lines, wrinkles, skin blemishes, acne scars, pigmentation, pores and more. There is some "social" downtime needed with most laser skin resurfacing procedures, which can be discussed during your complimentary skincare consultation.

Our Laser Treatments

Indulge your skin in the synergistic effects of laser skin resurfacing to improve the tone and texture by removing damaged cells and stimulating collagen growth. At your Halo laser session, we will use a hybrid of two fractional lasers to render extensive dermal rejuvenation to your skin. Halo creates beautiful results without the downtime of more aggressive resurfacing procedures. We will do our best to keep you comfortable and cool, as most patients feel a sensation of heat during the session. After the appointment, you may continue to feel warm for an additional 30 – 60 minutes.

Experience an overall improvement in your skin's appearance while reducing the signs of aging or other imperfections. You can also enhance the experience with bringing the Halo laser down on to your neck or you may also add on the ProFractional XC/MicroLaser Peel lasers to the area around your eyes and eyelid to improve fine lines and wrinkles for more younger looking, youthful eyes.

Ideal Candidates

There are several factors to take into consideration when deciding what treatment is right for your skin. If you have sun damage, acne scars, age spots, lines and wrinkles, redness, or pigmentation concerns, then laser skin resurfacing can be an effective tool to address these concerns. In addition, laser skin resurfacing works well for patients who have scaly patches, rough texture, or other irregularities.

Skin resurfacing is not usually recommended if you have very dark skin or active acne. Also, it is important to be aware that there is "social" downtime associated with these laser peels. Some patients, depending on the condition of their skin, may need up to 2 weeks for recovery.

Treatment Technique

Medication will be prescribed prior to your appointment to help minimize swelling and reduce the chance of a cold-sore outbreak after your session. A topical numbing creme will be applied one hour prior to your procedure. During the procedure, you will relax in the chair while the laser glides over your skin, precisely targeting the specific sections for resurfacing. You will feel warmth followed by cold air from the built-in cooling system.  From start to finish it takes approximately 25-35 minutes.  You will feel the sensation of heat for approximately one hour after the procedure.  We will provide you with a kit and directions to take care of your skin during the healing process.

What to Expect

The skin will seem red like you got a sunburn and there will be some pin-point bleeding and swelling. This should subside within a couple of days and the mend process will last over a 3 – 6 days. If you are receiving a more intense laser session, your recovery period may last longer.

All patients should reduce their sun exposure and apply sun protection frequently. For all intensities, the skin will naturally flake, crust, and peel away. It is vital to avoid interfering with the healing process to prevent scarring. Once the mend process has been completed, your skin will feel softer while looking younger, clearer, and rejuvenated.
