As an ophthalmologist, owner and CEO Dr. Alison R. Tendler has the unique advantage of being exceptionally comfortable and confident around the eye area, passing the same confidence along to her team of providers. In this article, ARTisan provider Allie will walk you through a variety of aesthetic and surgical treatments ARTisan and ART Vision offers. Whether you're looking to diminish fine lines, reduce puffiness, or simply refresh your appearance, this blog will help you understand the available choices and how ARTisan and ART Vision can help you achieve your desired results in a safe and effective way.

Aesthetics

First, let’s talk about aesthetic, or non-surgical, treatments that can enhance the eye area. These options include both injectable and laser options that can focus on restoring volume  and improving skin quality to the eye area. Different aesthetic options are available depending on your concerns and goals. Keep in mind, we always recommend meeting with one of our ARTisans for a consultation to help determine which option is best for you! Learn more about what each treatment addresses below:

Tear Trough Filler

Tear trough filler can be utilized under the eye where patients feel they look tired, or have dark circles. Often, these dark circles are shadowing from lack of volume under the eyes. Dermal filler is a gel-like substance that is injected around this area to help create volume where volume is lacking, which in turn improves the appearance of hollowness, dark circles, and the overall tired appearance that plagues many patients. This treatment does not correct skin quality but rather helps the under eye area appear brighter and more rejuvenated.

Neuromodulators

Neuromodulators (NMD), such as BOTOX® or Dysport®, can be utilized around the eye to help soften fine lines and deeper wrinkles that are referred to as “crows feet” or smile lines. NMD works by relaxing the muscle so the skin is no longer able to fold or wrinkle with animation and therefore helps soften lines. NMD is a treatment that needs to be repeated every 3-4 months for best results. NMD can also be injected right under the eye in the area that bulges when smiling to help improve the appearance of crepey under eye skin.

Ultra Laser Peel

Ultra Laser Peel (ULP) is an ablative laser that is used at ARTisan Skin and Laser Center to correct skin quality under the eye. ULP is a more intense laser treatment that targets deep wrinkles, scars, poor skin quality and tone. By ablating the top layer of skin, the ULP encourages collagen and elastin stimulation and the development of newer, younger skin in the treated areas. Heat from the laser also encourages tightening of the skin. This treatment is highly effective in providing rejuvenation to the eye area, and patients should be prepared for downtime and follow-up appointments to ensure effective results.

HALO®

HALO combines both ablative and non-ablative technologies to provide regeneration of new skin cells in the treated area. Typically HALO is used as a full face treatment to correct uneven skin tone, poor skin quality and texture, fine lines and wrinkles but this laser can also be used close to the eye area where patients have deeper wrinkles and crepey skin, encouraging the production of collagen and elastin and gently resurfacing the top layer of skin. While there is some downtime associated with HALO, it is less than a ULP. Generally, redness and swelling can be expected for 4-7 days after the treatment.

Morpheus Eyes

Morpheus is a radiofrequency microneedling treatment that is great for concerns of laxity and unwanted fat pads or “under-eye bags”. This treatment can be done around the eye area to address both of these concerns. Morpheus works by stimulating the production of collagen and the radiofrequency helps tighten the skin and minimize fat. Patients that have puffiness/fat pads under the eye can benefit from the Morpheus targeting the fat while simultaneously tightening the skin. While some redness is expected for a few days after the treatment, it is generally considered to be low downtime.

Surgical

Dr. Alison R. Tendler also offers surgical rejuvenation options for the eye area as well, including Accutite and Blepharoplasty.

Accutite

Accutite is more of a crossover treatment between aesthetic and surgical treatments. While it is not technically a surgery, it does offer surgical-like results and is performed similarly to a surgical procedure. Accutite is a minimally-invasive procedure that can smooth and tighten the skin surrounding the eyes. It uses radiofrequency assisted lipolysis to melt fat pads that are often responsible for the look of under-eye bags, while tightening the skin. This is a great treatment option for individuals who are not surgical candidates or who are looking for something less invasive than surgery.

Blepharoplasty

If you are experiencing loose, hanging or excessive skin in your upper eyelids that may or may not impede your vision or lax and puffy lower lids, a surgical procedure such as a blepharoplasty may be a good option. During a blepharoplasty, Dr. Tendler safely and effectively removes excess skin and fat that causes heavy lids. This can be done on both the upper and lower lids, depending on patient concern.
