What is Morpheus8?
The Morpheus8 is a radiofrequency (RF) microneedling treatment that is meant to promote the growth of new collagen, elastin formation, and the formation of new, healthy blood vessels in the targeted areas. An RF microneedling treatment involves a sterile group of uniform needles that are used to reach the surface of the client’s skin; what makes it radiofrequency is that heat is delivered to the tip of the needle to heat the dermal surface, furthering your skin goals and results (1). Think of it as the big brother treatment to regular microneedling. But why get this treatment in the first place? Let's talk about it!
As we age, we come into contact with external factors like sun exposure, skin injury that can accelerate skin aging and a decrease in skin quality; however, we also have our own internal aging processes, involving a natural decrease in our collagen and elastin production in our skin (the building blocks that keep our skin toned, structurally supported, and looking refreshed). This internal aging process means we start losing the structural support of our skin (the collagen) by about 1% a year in our late 20s (3). Over time, this can lead to our skin feeling lax or saggy in areas like the jaw, and along with the external solar and environmental damage, including skin trauma from acne scarring/surgeries, this can lead our skin to feel dull, wrinkled, scarred, and unsupported. The Morpheus8 is an excellent treatment to combat both the external and intrinsic aging processes- with a series of three treatments leaving patients with improved skin texture, reduced appearance of scars, reduced appearance of pore size and fine lines/wrinkles, and tighten the skin (2)!
What happens at my appointment?
Once you’ve had your aesthetic evaluation to discuss the areas of treatment, you will return to the clinic on the day of your appointment an hour before your treatment for photos, post care instructions, and numbing- we want to keep you as comfortable as possible during the treatment! Once you have numbed for an hour, we will start the treatment. You will be provided ProNox (also known as laughing gas) during the treatment to enhance your comfort. A face treatment on average takes around an hour, with additional time added on for other areas of concern such as the neck, chest, and abdomen! Afterward, an ointment will be applied to the treatment area, and you will be sent home with a post-care kit including an ointment, moisturizer, gentle cleanser, and sunscreen!
Who is a candidate?
The best part about Morpheus8 is its ability to treat a wide variety of skin concerns on a wide variety of patients! We have client’s from their 20s to 70s who love the Morpheus8 treatment for the treatment of their acne scars, c-section scars, skin texture, pore size, and skin laxity (think the jowl area of the jawline!). It’s a versatile treatment for our wide array of clientele!
What is the downtime?
Another great thing about Morpheus8 treatment is the minimal downtime. We always educate patients that it will be 2-3 days of redness and potential for mild swelling, but you can wear makeup the day after treatment!
